An evening of dance reveals human desires in conflict with each other and the natural world.

About this event

Two acclaimed Cleveland dance productions, FEAST: a ballet and Vivarta/Transformations, will share the Tri-C Eastern Campus stage in one special evening of environmentally themed entertainment on March 25.

The evening opens with Vivarta/Transformations, a production from internationally renowned Indian classical dancer and choreographer, Cleveland-based Sujatha Srinivasan. The evening’s intersecting theme of the natural world colliding with human desires continues with FEAST: a ballet, the critically acclaimed choreographic debut from principal dancers Christina Lindhout and Kelly Korfhage.

Both Vivarta and FEAST are stories about the pleasure and pain of wealth accumulation in the Anthropocene (Age of Humans).

Vivarta/Transformations is a captivating visual journey with dancers representing the five elements’ struggle to find a balance between the natural world and humanity. As civilization becomes an elemental force, Mother Earth turns her gaze to the assembled, offering a choice: seek unity and avoid climate catastrophe.

Immersed in a lavish set of over 500 sculptural objects created by 2021 Cleveland Arts Prize winner Corrie Slawson, FEAST follows a corps de ballet of dancers as they navigate a world of contradictions: ruler and ruled, giver and taker, consumer and consumed, complicity and resistance.

With choreography by Lindhout and Korfhage that juxtaposes humor and struggle, FEAST: a ballet deconstructs complex themes and tells an easy to follow story about the world of hidden supply chains, the division and unity that can be found there.
