The Tri-C JazzFest DownBeat Education Days is an annual event dedicated to the education and appreciation of jazz that reaches more than 200 students in Ohio and surrounding states. These special days include adjudicated performances by middle school, high school, college, and community bands featuring clinics and workshops with national artists in improvisation, technique, various styles, and becoming a more engaged listener and musician. The adjudicators this year are Tri-C JazzFest Artist-in-Residence/saxophonist Braxton Cook, trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, bassist Bryan Thomas, saxophonist Dave Sterner, pianist Grant Heineman, and drummer Zaire Darden.

Braxton Cook is one of his generation’s most exciting voices. Cook not only exhibits world-class virtuosity on the alto saxophone, he is also a uniquely talented vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer who blends jazz, soul, and alternative R&B into a sound all his own. Leading his own group, Cook has worked with such artists as Christian Scott, Christian McBride, Jon Batiste, Marquis Hill, among others. Outside of the jazz sphere, he has worked alongside Rihanna, Solange Knowles, Phony Ppl, and Tom Misch.

The 2023 Tri-C JazzFest DownBeat Education Days takes place April 18-20 at the Metropolitan Campus.

The Community Concert, Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30pm, features JazzFest Artist-in-Residence saxophonist Braxton Cook with trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, drummer Zaire Darden, pianist Grant Heineman, bassist Bryan Thomas and Tri-C JazzFest Academy's Spirit of the Groove.
