Afrofuturism: Imagining Black Futures
Monday, Oct. 21 | 12:15 – 1:15 p.m.
Metro Campus | MCC 201
Guest: Gayle Williamson, Associate Professor, English, Western Campus
From the scenes of Black Panther to the stories of N.K. Jemisin to the music of Janelle Monáe, Afrofuturism connects the past, present and future by envisioning worlds where Black lives, culture and resilience are central to society’s unfolding story. In this conversation, we will delve into the artistic, cultural and political dimensions of Afrofuturism, consider how speculative storytelling can challenge dominant narratives, and provide frameworks for an empowering future.
If you can’t attend in person, watch these discussions on Webex.
