Family Medicine Physician Assistant, MetroHealth Broadway Health Center and LGBTQ+ Pride Network

Bethany Thomas is a proud graduate of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®), where she was named Tri-C Student of the Year in 2017. She completed her undergraduate degree at Baldwin Wallace University in May 2019 with a major in biology and a neuroscience minor. One week later, she began the Physician Assistant program at BW, where she obtained her master’s in medical science.

She is thrilled to be at MetroHealth as a primary care provider for an underserved population in Slavic Village and a primary care provider for the LGBTQ population at MetroHealth’s Pride Clinic. She is the recent recipient of the MetroHealth Clinical Excellence Award.

This event is part of the Robert Searson Learning for Life Lecture Series.

We’ll also look at how generative AI can be used — not to do the work for students but to help them engage more deeply in the learning process. Participants will leave with ready-to-use ideas.

About the Speaker: Todd D. Zakrajsek, Ph.D., an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine at UNC at Chapel Hill, develops resources for faculty on teaching/learning, leadership and publishing. Prior to joining the School of Medicine, he was a tenured associate professor of psychology and built faculty development efforts at three universities. An extensive author, Zakrajsek has given keynote addresses, campus workshops and conference presentations in all 50 states, in 12 countries and on four continents.

Tri-C's Help Is Here team is proud to welcome Kevin Hines, a suicide attempt survivor & prevention speaker, to ALL campuses! Kevin has dedicated his life to helping save lives.

In 2000, Kevin attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. He is one of 36 (< 1%) who have ever survived. Many factors contributed to his miraculous survival including a sea lion which kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived. His motto is #BeHereTomorrow and every day after that.

Cuyahoga Community College invites you to participate in a powerful learning experience that creates insight into the chronic crisis that consumes so many students. The poverty simulation experience is designed to help faculty, staff and administration begin to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month.

It is a simulation, not a game. The objective is to raise participants' awareness of the realities faced by low-income individuals. If you are passionate about creating positive change, please register to participate in this immersive experience.

To ensure the integrity of the experience, we ask that participants refrain from seeking additional information before the simulation. We aim to offer an authentic experience that sparks thoughtful reflection.

The Poverty Simulation Experience will:

Promote Poverty Awareness: During the simulation, role-play a month in poverty and experience the lives of low-income families.Increase Understanding: After the simulation, you will unpack your learning and brainstorm community change.Inspire Local Change: Together, you can be a voice to end poverty in your family, friends and community.

Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. It’s the body’s natural reaction to sudden changes or challenges.

While our bodies are equipped to handle small doses of stress, we do not have the ability to schedule when these challenges arise. We can, however, work to prevent stress and manage how we handle the long-term stresses brought upon us to reduce the physical consequences that stress can have on our health.

This course is designed to help individuals and teams better understand, manage, and reduce stress in the workplace. Participants will learn how to monitor and measure stress levels and recognize common stress symptoms, enabling early identification of stress-related issues. The session will explore the seven key stress factors that impact productivity, providing insights into how each contributes to workplace tension.

Practical strategies will be introduced to help manage stress and prevent burnout, focusing on proactive and sustainable approaches. Finally, the course emphasizes long-term well-being by introducing the four key areas of resiliency, guiding participants in developing healthy, lasting habits to support personal and professional growth.

As part of this engagement, participants will complete a validated stress assessment. This assessment looks at seven stress factors that impact stress levels in the workplace and is used to evaluate individual and collective team stress. Individual data is not shared with anyone else in the group. For group engagements, we will cover the collective data which will show the results in aggregate, but not at the individual level.

This playful, quirky, loose adaptation of "The Little Mermaid," about a Little Rain Cloud who falls in love with a human, explores the struggles of unrequited love. Meanwhile, a writer, Dolan (modeled on Hans Christian Andersen) reveals his personal struggles with relationships in this story about love and passion.

Content transparency: "Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea" includes profanity, verbal mentions of violence (stabbing and shooting) and death.

“Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
