Transformative Leadership in Higher Education

Sponsored by Tri-C's Network of Women

Presenters: Denise McCory, Ed.D., and Holly Craider, Ph.D.

Today’s higher education leaders face a plethora of challenges, such as increasing regulation and accountability, dwindling resources and, most recently, public health and economic crises. In higher education, traditional hierarchical and authoritative leadership approaches are ineffective in addressing these complex issues. This workshop introduces participants to the concept of transformative leadership — an alternative approach to problem-solving that comprises five strategies: open communication, assembling an effective leadership team, promoting collaboration, aligning resources with goals, and embracing multiple frames and perspectives. Participants will also assess their personal leadership style and learn how to address complex challenges by relying on influence rather than positional authority.
