Safe Zone Ally Training

Cuyahoga Community College cares about ending all forms of oppression. A Safe Zone is considered a space where everyone will be listened to and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression. The Safe Zone logo is a way to designate a “safe space,” whether on an office window, door, or on a button. People should feel comfortable in this open and affirming space to openly discuss LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Questioning/Queer) related issues.

Safe Zone training allows participants to become aware of how to create a space where all will feel welcomed and respected across the spectrum of sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression. Interact and learn about topics such as: vocabulary, LGBTQ+ research and data supporting the need for SZs, integrating more information related to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression into curriculum, awareness of resources, and explore how to discuss LGBTQ+ topics with others. Following training, those attending the entire session may choose to become a Tri-C Certified Safe Zone Ally and will receive a Safe Zone logo to display.
