That Rhythm, Those Blues Movie Screening

7 p.m. in the  Fran and Jules Belkin Theatre, MCCA 107

Newly restored after its release 30 years ago, this documentary traces the breakthrough of R&B from the 1940s through the 1980s and features pioneers Ruth and Charles Brown. “The real joy of That Rhythm, Those Blues is its multi-layered structure – the way producer-director George T. Nierenberg interweaves personal stories and social history, interviews and music, color footage, and black-and-white stills, with fast-paced, chain-of-association cutting.” Robert Goldberg, The Wall Street Journal

After the screening, director Nierenberg will discuss the film and take questions from the audience.

Admission is $5 for the general public and free for students with ID. Cash only at the door.
