Brian Simpson’s Smooth Jazz All Stars/Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles
Inspired keyboardist, composer, prolific studio musician and producer Brian Simpson has a soulful approach to music has made him first call for many including Janet Jackson, Teena Marie, George Duke, Stanley Clarke and Dave Koz. Simpson has always been a working jazz musician and has toured with some of the greats of recent jazz history, including George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Larry Carlton, Billy Cobham, and Gerald Albright.
Simpson hits the JazzFest stage with five other musicians as part of his Smooth Jazz All Stars. Grammy Award-nominated artists Maysa and Kenny Lattimore bring soulful vocal sounds encompassing jazz, R&B and gospel. Both on the saxophone, Kim Waters and Paul Taylor team up to put on a gifted performance while guitarist Marc Antoine sets the tone with his melodic vibes.
Best known for his role in Snarky Puppy, Cory Henry’s deft keyboard skills have been blowing minds around the world for more than two decades now. On his debut album with The Funk Apostles, ‘Chapter 1: The Art of Love,’ this organ virtuoso demonstrates that he’s more than up for the challenge, moving from sideman to frontman with seemingly effortless grace and cool. He and the band whip up an intoxicating blend of blues, soul, R&B, Afrobeat, gospel, and jazz on the record, blurring genres and upending expectations at every turn.
