Master Class with Branford Marsalis

Join us at the Tri-C Metropolitan Campus for a free master class with Branford Marsalis the morning of his Ohio Theatre performance. Students will be adjudicated and Marsalis will take questions from the audience and critique a student combo.

Biography:

Branford Marsalis has enjoyed an expansive musical journey – from playing concertos with orchestras to touring with Sting, and recording with everyone from Harry Connick Jr. to the Grateful Dead.  He has become an avatar of contemporary artistic excellence.

The Branford Marsalis Quartet, first formed in 1986, remains Branford’s endless source of inspiration. In its uninterrupted three-plus decades of existence, the Quartet (with Joey Calderazzo, Eric Reavis and Justin Faulkner) has established a rare breadth of stylistic range and a kind of group mind. The Secret Between the Shadow and the Soul, recorded in Melbourne, Australia, showcases melodic strength and extrasensory interaction, and confirms the Branford Marsalis Quartet as a paragon of uncompromising jazz excellence.
